Common Folk in the Boat Podcast: Guest Peter & Patty Duke of Point6 Merino Wool

The concept of Common Folk in the Boat is that you could be riding the chairlift in Steamboat and have no idea that you’re sitting next to the founder of a nationally recognized brand. And that’s exactly who we’re highlighting on the podcast today. Please welcome Peter & Patty Duke, founders of Point6 Merino Wool.

Eli: I want to go back about three or four decades ago. You both were ski bums from the east coast who ventured out west when something made you land in Steamboat Springs. So before you started merino wool apparel companies, you were living the life of the common ski bum of Steamboat. But what exactly was it about Steamboat that you found so attractive that you decided to move here?

Peter: Well, if I may, I don’t really enjoy that term “ski bum.” I taught skiing for many years at a very high level and ran different ski schools in the country while being a part of the PSIA national team. So I prefer to think that I was a little bit more mature than your typical ski bum. But, you know, I suppose it was skiing as a bum that got me into ski instruction to begin with.

And with that, we’re off! Give this episode a listen to hear the founding story behind Point6 merino wool and how this Steamboat-based couple is taking the sock world by storm.
